Call for Submissions
Ornithopter Press will consider full-length poetry manuscripts received between September 22 and November 12, 2023.

Ornithopter Press puts out two to four books per year and seeks to amplify a broad range of perspectives and experience. If you haven't already done so, it would be a good idea to read some work published by the press before you decide to submit. Further information about Ornithopter Press can be found online and through social media, etc. An independent publisher of poetry that runs counter to the mainstream..... Yes, that remains true.
Submission Guidelines
- Ornithopter Press accepts manuscript submissions in PDF form only.
- Suggested manuscript length: 70 to 100 pages.
- Please don't submit more than one manuscript during a reading period.
- While individual poems (or text passages) will ideally have been published in journals, anthologies, chapbooks, etc., the manuscript itself must be a new and unpublished work.
- Simultaneous submissions are okay. Please promptly send notification if your manuscript is accepted elsewhere.
- Send your submission to: mark@ornithopterpress.com. Write “Submission from (insert your name)” in the subject line.
- Do not include material in the body of the email other than a note to say who you are and whether yours is a simultaneous submission.
- Attach one file (PDF only) to your email that includes:
When publishing full-length collections with Ornithopter Press, authors can expect:
- no fees of any kind
- help with editing and/or revision
- sophisticated design, with attention given to every detail
- copyright registration
- 12 complimentary copies of their published book
- the option to purchase, with no requirement to do so, further copies at 50% of retail price plus shipping costs
- royalties of 10% of the retail price after an initial 150 copies have been sold
- royalties of 12% of the retail price on all copies sold in excess of 3,150
- guidance throughout the entire process of publishing and promotion
- timely provision of press releases and ARCs to potential reviewers, literary journals and other media organizations
- sales reports at six-month intervals
- books printed and distributed, both in the U.S. and internationally, by Ingram's Lightning Source network
- a contract with a duration limited to ten years, and the option to renew
